The expert committee of the Ministry of Defence selects the floats through a complex and transparent process. Well-known individuals from fields such as industry, culture, sculpture, and architecture, along with Padma award winners, are members of this committee. In the first phase, sketches and designs are evaluated. In the second phase, 3D models are created. Final recognition is granted based on the accuracy of music, colours, and messages.

On the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, the ‘path of duty’ is set to witness glory once again. The parade on January 26, 2026 will not only showcase the military might of the nation but will also serve as a vibrant representation of India’s cultural unity and the ongoing steps towards becoming ‘self-reliant’. According to sources in the ministry, this year’s event is particularly dedicated to the historic occasion of the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’.

This time, the Central government has prepared the event around with two joint themes: “Mantra of Independence: Vande Mataram” and “Mantra of Prosperity: Atmanirbhar Bharat”. A total of 30 showcases from various states, Union territories, and ministries are ready given a go-ahead to captivate the audience with their artistry and messages.

The most significant feature of this year’s Republic-Day parade is the celebration of the glorious 150 years of the song “Vande Mataram”. Through various displays, the contribution of this song to the freedom struggle and national awareness will be highlighted. Additionally, the objectives of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” will be presented through the progress achieved in various sectors such as defence, technology, and agriculture.

A total of 17 states and Union territories will showcase their cultural highlights through a vibrant display. In addition to the states, 13 ministries and departments of the Central government will also present their exhibits. Among these, the Ministry of Culture’s display titled “Vande Mataram: The Soul of the Nation” will be a major attraction. Furthermore, there will be exhibits from other departments, including Ayush, the Ministry of Home Affairs’ NDRF, as well as new legislation, defence, education, and skill development.

The states that will be affected by the Kartavya Path are as follows: Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab from the North; Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry from the South; West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland from the East and the Northeast; and Gujarat and Maharashtra from West India.

Additionally, Tamil Nadu will showcase “Self-Reliant India – Electric Vehicle (EV) Manufacturing Hub”. Uttar Pradesh will present “The Culture of Bundelkhand”. Kerala will exhibit “Water Metro and 100% Digital Kerala”. Odisha will display “From Soil to Silicon: Innovation and Heritage”.

To enhance the Indian essence of the event and make it more appealing, the seating enclosures for the audience have been named after major Indian rivers such as Ganga, Yamuna, and Godavari. Conversely, for the “Beating the Retreat” ceremony, the enclosures have been named after Indian musical instruments like the Veena and Mridangam.

The government has invited 400 national guests from various regions of the country to encourage integrated participation. Approximately 5,000 special guests associated with technology, start-ups, and self-help groups will witness this momentous occasion.

Republic-Day Celebration 2026 will showcase an extraordinary blend of Indian pride, modernity, and cultural heritage, presenting to the world the growing strength of India.
